Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer company headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. In 2013, this multinational corporation has 3,33,498 employees in the world and this is the twelfth largest company in the world as of November 2014. In 2012, company reported the production of its 200-millionth vehicle and Toyota was the largest automobile manufacturer by production. Toyota is the first automobile manufacturer company in the world to produce more than 10 million vehicles per year.
In 1934, while still a department of Toyota industries, it made the Type A engine its first product and in 1936, it creates its first passenger car the Toyota AA. Later in 1937, the company was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda as a spinoff from his father’s company Toyota Industries to create automobiles. Toyota set up joint ventures with China, Czech Republic and India along with several nonautomotive companies. Toyota Motor Corporation(TMC) is part of the Toyota Group is one of the largest conglomerates in the world.
In addition to manufacturing automobiles, Toyota also provides financial services through its Toyota Financial Services division and also builds robots. Current Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation is Takeshi Uchiyamada replacing Fujio Cho. As reported on its consolidated financial statements, Toyota has 226 affiliates and 540 consolidated subsidiaries. On 8th May 2013, Toyota Motor Corporation announced its financial results for the ‘fiscal year’ ended March 31, 2013.
In 1980, Toyota received its first Japanese Quality Control Award and began participating in a wide variety of motorsports. In 1990’s, Toyota began to branch out from producing mostly compact cars by adding more luxurious and many large vehicles to its line-up. Toyota also began production of the world’s best selling hybrid car, the Prius, in 1997. In 2002, Toyota managed to enter a Formula One works team and establish joint ventures with French motoring companies and a year after Toyota started produces cars in France.
