Chevrolet also known as Chevy or Chev and formally as the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Company founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant in November 3, 1911, is an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors and started by the founder as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Chevrolet branded vehicles are sold in most automotive markets around the world with the notable exception of Oceania, where GM is represented by the subsidiary.
In North America, Chevrolet produces and sells wide range of vehicles, from subcompact automobiles to medium duty commercial trucks. Louis Chevrolet had differences with Durant on design and in 1914 sold Durant his share in the company. Later Chevrolet was profitable enough with successful sales of the cheaper Series 490 which allow Durant to repurchase interest in General Motors. In 1917, After that deal Durant became president of General Motors and Chevrolet was merged into GM as a separate division.
In 1919, Chevrolet’s factories were located in Tarrytown, Michigan, New York City, California, Ohio, New York, Oakland, Flint, Toledo, St.Louis, Fort Worth, Missouri, Texas, and Oshawa, Ontario General Motors of Canada Limited. During 1950’s and 1960’s Chevrolet had a great influenced on the American automobile market. In 1957, Chevy introduced its first fuel injected engine, in 1963, it introduced the Corvair, with a rear mounted air-cooled engine. In 1963 every tenth car sold in the United States was Chevrolet. In 2010, General Motors began production of the plug-in electric Chevrolet Volt which later was announced as the 2012 North American Car of the year. Its international operations are in China, Mexico, Brazil, United States, Argentina, Russia, Canada, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Salvador and India.
