
BMW COMPANY
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is German automobile, engine and motorcycle manufacturing company which was founded in 1916, and commonly known as BMW or BMW AG headquartered in Munich, Bavaria. It is the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and also owns and produces mini cars. In 2012, this group produces 117,109 motorcycles and 1,845,186 automobiles all of its brand across the world. BMW is also the part of “German Big 3” luxury automobile manufacturer along with Mercedes- Benz and Audi, which are the three best selling luxury automobile manufacturer worldwide.
In 1917, BMW was established as a business entity following a reconstructing of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft manufacturing firm. The company consequently shifted to producing motorcycle in 1923, later started production followed by automobile in 1928-29. Its first successful car, which launched BMW on the road to automobile production was the Dixi. In 1918, BMW’s first significant aircraft engine was the BMW llla inline-six liquid-cooled engine much preferred for its high attitude performance.
In 2004, the 1 Series was launched by BMW which is the BMW’s smallest car. Currently available are the first generation couple/convertible (E82/E88) and the second generation hatchback (F20). In model year 1975, a compact executive car the 3 Series was manufactured which is currently in its sixth generation F(30). In 2014, the 4 Series will be released and replace the 3 Series couple and convertible. A mid-size executive car, the 5 Series, available in station wagon (F11) and sedan (F10) forms. BMW’s full size flagship executive sedan is the 7 Series which is one of the world’s first hydrogen fueled internal combustion engines, is fueled by liquid hydrogen and released only clean water vapour. The latest generation (F01) based on the 5 Series platform debuted in2009.
