SAMSUNG GROUP


Samsung Group is a South Korean multinational conglomerate company headquarter situated in Samsung Town, Seoul. In 1938, Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul as a trading company and the next three decades, the group diversified inti areas including food processing, securities, insurance, retails and textiles. In late 1960s Samsung entered the electronic industry and the construction and shipbuilding industries in the mid 1970s. In 1987, after the death of Lee, Samsung was separated into four business groups; Samsung Group, CJ Group, Hansol Group and Shinsegae Group.
According to the Samsung Group, the Korean hanja word Samsung means “tristar” or “three stars” which represents something “big, numerous and powerful”. Samsung has expanding globalized its activities, and electronics, particularly semiconductors and mobile phones had become its main source of income. Notable Samsung industrial includes Samsung Electronics, Samsung Engineering, Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung C&T. other notable subsidiaries includes Samsung Techwin, Samsung Everland, Samsung Life Insurance and Chell Worldwide. Samsung made a heavy influence on South Korea’s economic development, media, culture, and politics. And has been a major driving force behind the “Miracle on the Han River”. In 2013, Samsung began construction on building the world’s largest mobile phone factory in Vietnam.
In 2000, Samsung opened a computer programming laboratory in Warsaw, Poland. It started work with set top-box technology before moving into smartphones and digital TV. In 2011, the Warsaw base is Samsung’s most important R&D center in Europe. In December 2011, Samsung Electronics sold its hard disk drive(HDD) business to Seagate. In the early 2012, Samsung Electronics beomes the world’s largest mobile phone makers overtaking Nokia, the lwrgest mobile phone maker since 1998. Around 2008, Apple sought to ban the sales of eight Samsung mobile phones; Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2 skyrocket, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail in the U.S. which has been denied by the court.
