Hitachi ltd. The worldwide company is a Japanese multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate company whose headquarter is in chiyoda, Tokyo, japan. Odaira the founder of the company coined the company’s toponymic name by superposing two ‘kanji’ characters; ‘hi’ meaning “sun” and ‘tachi’ means “rise”. The new young company’s national aspiration were conveyed by its original brand mark, which evoked Japan’s imperial rising sun flag. Hitachi is a highly diversified company that operates eleven business segments. Those are social infrastructure, financial services, information and telecommunication systems, automotive system, high functional materials and components, power systems, electronic system and equipments, railway and urban systems, construction machinery, digital media and consumer products, other components and system.
Hitachi talks with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in august 2011 about a potential merge of the two companies, in what would have been the largest merger of the two Japanese companies in history, the talks subsequently broke down and suspended.
Hitachi was founded by an electrical engineer Namihei Odaira in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1910. The first product of the company was Japan’s first 5-horsepower electric induction motor, which was initially developed for use in copper mining. And the company soon became the basic domestic leader in electric power industry infrastructure. Hitachi America, Ltd was established in 1959. Hitachi Europe, Ltd was established in 1982.
Hitachi agreed to join the United Kingdom based nuclear energy company ‘Horizon Nuclear Power, whose plan is to construct about six nuclear power plants in October 2012. And In November Hitachi and Mitsubishi agreed to merge their thermal power generation businesses into joint venture with 65% of Hitachi and 35% of Mitsubishi. Later joint venture begun operation in February 2014.
