HAIER GROUP

Haier group is a Chinese multinational consumer electronics and home appliances company whose headquarter is in Qingdao, Shandong, China. Haier group designs, manufactures, develops, and sell products including mobile phones, air conditioner, microwave oven, computers, televisions 

refrigerators, and washing machines. German name Haier came out from the last two syllables of the Chinese transliteration of Liebherr(pronounced li-bo-hai-er). Quingdao Haier Group was later simplifies to Haier Group in 1992.

In 1920s, the origin of Haier comes from a refrigerator factory which was built in Qingdao to supply the Chinese market. Later in 1949, after the establishment of People’s Republic of China, the factory was taken over and turned into a ‘state-owned enterprise’. Later In 1984 we can say Haier had been founded as Quingdao  Refrigerator CO. A Germany’s refrigerator company Liebherr made a joint venture with Qingdao Refrigerator Co. and later Refrigerators were manufactured under the name of Qingdao-Liebherr.

Haier bought out ‘Red Star Electric Factory’  its chief rival in 1995 in Quingdao, company moved into television manufacturing with the acquisition of Huangshan Electronics Group. Company opened a production facility in 1996 in Philippines and Malaysia in 1997.

Haier started manufacturing full size refrigerator for the market of North America and this would comes in the competition with established American companies like Whirlpool, Maytag, GE and Frigidaire. Then it starts production in United States at South Carolina and Camden in 2000. Production facilities also constructed in Pakistan in 2002 and Jordon in 2003. AND in AFRICA Haier has plant in five countries; Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt and South Africa. Currently Haier made joint venture agreement with the Government of Venezuela.
