Olympus Corporation was founded in 12^th October 1919, headquartered at Tokyo, Japan. The company was started as Takachiho Seisakusho. In 1921, the company was registered “Olympus” as a trademark. The company was renamed to Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. in 1949. Olympus website was launched in 1996. In 2003, the company was renamed to Olympus Corporation. Olympus (China) Co. Ltd. established as a regional headquarter.

Yoshihisa Maitani was born in 1933. Since boyhood, he felt an affinity toward cameras and photography. He joined Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. in 1956. As a camera designer, he was involved in the development of many cameras that triggered major booms and became milestone in world camera history, including the Olympus Pen (1959), the Olympus Pen F (1963), the Olympus OM-1 (1973) and Olympus XA (1979). He died at the age of 76.

Olympus won the DP Review Reader’s Choice: Best Gear of 2013: Product of the Year & Best Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera for OM-D E-M1 in 2013 and also DP Review: Best camera of 2012 for E-M5. Olympus won the European Compact System Camera & All Weather Camera for E-M1 & TG-1 respectively. E-M5 also won the Camera of the year in Gizmodo Awards 2012. E-P3 won the Better Photography Excellence Award 2011 for the Mirrorless Camera of the Year & Best professional lens of the year, Smart Photography Awards 2011 for the Camera of the year & Best Interchangeable lens compact camera of the year, and Stuff India Awards 2011 for Camera of the Year in 2011.

Olympus has manufactured varieties of camera models which are Stylus Series, Stylus X Series, Stylus T Series, Stylus S Series, Stylus V Series, Four Thirds Series/Digital SLR, OM-D (E-M) Series and PEN (E-P & E-PL) Series. Olympus had discontinued many of its camera models which are FE series, SP series, µ series, SW µ series, XZ-1, TG-1, TG-310, TG-810, SH-25MR, SZ-31MR, SZ-30MR, SZ-20, SZ-14, SP-810UZ, SP-720UZ, SP-620UZ, SP-610UZ, VR-350, VR-320, VR-310, VG-170, VG-160, VG-150, VG-140, VG-130, VG-120, VG-110, E-3, E-30, E-P1, E-PL1, E-PL3 and E-PM1

Olympus manufactures many other products which are voice recorders, binoculars, medical equipments, surgical equipments, scientific equipments, industrial scanners, flaw detectors, probes & transducer, thickness gages, image analysis software, industrial video scopes, fiber scopes, light sources, XRF & XRD analyzers and high-speed video cameras.
