Canon India Pvt. Ltd. is a 100% subsidiary of Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd.; a world leader in imaging technologies. Canon India forayed into retail space with the launch of its exclusive brand retail store called “Canon Image Square”. Canon has inaugurated 50 stores in 2011, added 43stores in 2012, & targets to take the count to 300 stores by the end of 2014. At present, Canon has 109 Canon Image Squares in 56 cities across India. Canon’s unique initiative is to tap B, C & D-class cities of the country. In 2006 & 2010, the company was certified for its “Strong commitment to excel” at CII-EXIM Business Excellence Award. Canon Inc. was founded in Tokyo, Japan on 10 August 1937, headquartered in Ota, Tokyo, Japan. Canon began with the establishment of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in 1933. The Kwanon, Japan’s first 35 mm focal-plane-shutter camera, is produced in prototype form in 1934. Japan’s first indirect X-ray camera is developed in 1940. Takeshi Mitarai is appointed president of Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd. in 1942. In 1963, Canon started working on optical fibre development & also introduced an X-ray mirror camera. In 1964, the world’s first 10-key electronic calculator, The Canola 130, was introduced. In 1974, 1977, 1989, 1993 & 1995, Takeo Maeda, Ryuzaburo Kaku, Keizo Yamaji, Hajime Mitarai & Fujio Mitarai respectively was appointed as president of Canon Inc. Canon enters the digital video camcorder market with the OPTURA (MV1 in other regions) in 1997. In 2003, Canon Aptex Inc. & Copyer Co. Ltd. merged to form Canon Finetech Inc. In 2006, Canon Inc., appointed CEO Fujio Mitarai as chairman & Tsuneji Uchida as president and COO
Canon has 26,114 employees & has common stock of 174,762 million yen & 257 consolidated subsidiaries as recorded in December 31, 2013. The net sales of Canon is 2,128,798 million yen (Non-consolidated) and 3,731,380 million yen (consolidated). Canon India closed the year 2013 with revenues of Rs. 1,910 crore, 3% growth over 2012.
